For Week 2 there was a lecture about the purpose of design and how every designer has their own manifesto. He showed us work from other artists and made us ponder about the meaning behind it. But besides all that, we had a food party!! Haha is this how college life works?
Anyway, every student brought some unique food to class and shared with everyone. I brought my Vietnamese cup noodles that were very cheap. They barely costed a ringgit each. So, there was actually a deeper reason for why Mr Charles arranged this potluck-ish thing for us, I think. Mr Charles made us try a weird food. It tasted familliar, and I wasn't wrong because I had it before! It tasted like the Chinese fermented bean fish. (Sounds so weird lol) In Chinese it's called 豆鼓鲮鱼!It's goes well with porridge.

With that aside, he said something very interesting. Because all of us had different reactions, he commented that we tend to not know what it tastes like if we didn't know what it came from or what it was. I think it meant that different people had different opinions when there is no clear cut answer. This is how each of our personality can show, which makes us all unique. The foods from different countries were also a lesson about how our different environment can reflect on us. We are very much influenced by our culture and upbringing, and those effects our displayed in the things we create. In this case, it's the food. But that can be in other forms as well, such as art and design.
This made me think about what effected my art, too. It’s definitely the animation I watch, if I say so myself. I think it's a mixture of Japanese and Western art? Sometimes I not so sure myself haha. Well, life's a journey of self-discovery so I not in a hurry haha! That's it for this week!
